Shanon Duffy

Shanon Duffy always looked up to her older brother, Sergeant Shane Duffy, who served as an Army infantryman. After he was killed in action while deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in June 2008, Shanon attended college for a time, only to drop out and enlist in the Air Force as a medic in 2011. Even though her dad was a Navy veteran and her brother an Army soldier, Shanon chose the Air Force because it was the only branch her brother wanted her to join. Through her work as a medic, Shanon found solace caring for service members and saving them from the same fate as her brother. She discovered a sense of peace and understanding through her service and a better understanding of why her brother volunteered to go on the mission that would ultimately end his life.
