Patricia (Pat) James-Booker
Patricia (Pat) James-Booker (Air Force) served eight years in the Air Force, then worked as a nurse for over 20 years until she suffered two strokes, which forced her into early retirement. When her landlord decided not to renew her lease in Wilmington, Delaware in 2023, Pat couldn’t find another affordable place, leaving her with the prospect of homelessness. Thanks to a partnership between the Department of Housing and Urban Development and Veterans Affairs, she secured an apartment for a year before inheriting a house from her late father-in-law, an Army veteran. In 2011, Pat founded Veterans in Between, a nonprofit organization that offers women veterans support with homelessness, mental health, drug and alcohol treatment and more. She also serves as mentor in the Philadelphia Veterans Court. Pat is from and still lives in Philadelphia.
