Kara Rutter

Kara Rutter (Army) yearned to be on the growing side of production after a career spent in food services with the Army. Despite having no experience in farming, Kara and her husband, Matthew, also an Army veteran, purchased land after retiring from the military in 2020 and named their farm Rutter’s Ranch. While earning a PhD in agriculture, Kara learned how to tend livestock, plant gardens, reconnect with her community, heal her heart and grow her mind. Recognizing the power of “dirt therapy,” she founded Project Victory Gardens, an agritherapy and education program designed to cultivate resiliency among veterans through the grounding power of agriculture. Born in Missoula, Montana, Kara lives in Townville, South Carolina.
