Harold “Buster” Hatcher

Harold “Buster” Hatcher (Army) is the Chief of the Waccamaw Indian People in South Carolina. He joined the Army in 1968 at the age of 18 and remained in the military for the following 20 years, retiring in 1988. During his military career, he served over 11 years with the 82nd Airborne Division, headquartered at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, including combat in Vietnam. Among his over 21 medals, he was awarded the Purple Heart, a Bronze Star with Valor, the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry, Basic Airborne Wings and the Combat Infantryman’s Badge. Harold was born and still lives in Conway, South Carolina.
