Edie Meeks
Edie Meeks (Army Nurse Corps) was inspired to join the military in early 1968 after her brother was drafted into the Marine Corps. She was deployed to Saigon in support of the Vietnam War just a few months later, where she worked in the Intensive Care Units of the 3rd Field Hospital and the 71st Evac Hospital in Pleiku as one of the 10,000 women who served in-country during the Vietnam War. In 1970, she returned home and exchanged her military uniform for a nurse’s one, which she wore for over 50 years. Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Edie lives in Beacon, New York.
